Mathematical Change

Observations - noticing

Today I think some people who know me would be shocked by what I did in mathematics today.
My target group who are all year 8 are struggling ... did algorithm thing and their engagement understanding and self esteem had a positive movement.
At this point I think this response to the students has increased their actual acquisition of mathematical language and their movement from basic facts too.  Progress in mathematics has also been an area of concern.   The change in attitude and transfer to problem solving application and language has also increased their levels of engagement.
Evidence... I set up several stations in class for measurement, students were in mixed ability groups (they organised these) and the room was alive with talk.

This left me to thinking how can I do this in literacy?  Am I not already doing this?
Reflection is a powerful tool!
